Migrating away from the US tech I use

Why am I doing this.

  1. Because of the outrageous behaviour of the Trump administration, some american citizens are advocating stopping consumption of big tech goods and services. I want to suport that trend. Big tech refers to the top 6 tech companies: Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia.
  2. I want to move away from companies engaged in Surveillance Capitalism. The two most blatently engaged in this type of surveillance are Meta, and Google.

Migration Log

Below is a log of the the services I have replaced below. I intend it to grow it until I reach a zero footprint goal.

AWS S3 and cloudshare

My first migration is to move my web site content away from my current american service: AWS S3 Storage and AWS cloudshare content delivery.

I needed a non US service that conformed to my ownership and jurisdiction requirements that would be as easy as possible to transition to.

I settled on Bunny.net as my new service provider.

Google Chrome and google search engine

Google Chrome was my go to browser tool. Now I need to migrate away from it because it is the worst offender insofar as surveilance capitalism is concerned.

I have switched to mozilla firefox for day to day browser and Thor for high privacy browsing. For the same reason, I have switched my default search engine to duckduckgo.
